Halle Solomon

Education Coordinator

Halle Solomon joined Carolina Waterfowl Rescue as an intern in May 2026 and officially became a staff member in August 2026. As CWR’s Education Coordinator, she helps turn the rescue’s hands-on animal welfare work into educational experiences that inspire people to better understand and care for animals.

Halle’s responsibilities include developing and presenting educational programs, coordinating school visits, camps, and community outreach, creating educational materials, working with CWR’s ambassador animals, and helping develop new programs. She also contributes to grant work and helps promote CWR’s educational programs within the community.

Her work often crosses into other areas of the rescue as well. During baby bird season, Halle assists Assistant Director and Songbird Program Supervisor Laurel Millaci with the demanding work involved in caring for young birds. This combination of education and hands-on animal care gives Halle the opportunity to teach from real-world experience and share with others what wildlife rehabilitation and responsible animal stewardship truly involve.

Halle is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at the University of Florida, specializing in Animal Behavior and Welfare, with an expected graduation in 2027. Her education reflects the same interests that drew her to CWR: understanding animals, improving their welfare, and helping people build more informed relationships with them.

Before joining Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, Halle gained experience working as a veterinary technician at Northwood Animal Hospital, where she worked with a variety of species, including birds, rabbits, and reptiles. She has also volunteered with Gainesville Rabbit Rescue, where she served as a volunteer coordinator.

At CWR, Halle particularly enjoys working with the animals involved in education and outreach. One of her favorites is Beetlejuice, CWR’s ambassador kingsnake. Her appreciation for snakes reflects her broader interest in animals that are often misunderstood or overlooked. Through education, she has the opportunity to help people replace fear or misconceptions with curiosity and respect.

Animals are also an important part of Halle’s life outside of work. She shares her home with two rabbits, Benji and Toby, and a cat named Frances.

Halle’s role at CWR combines several things she cares deeply about: animal behavior and welfare, hands-on animal care, education, and community engagement. Whether she is helping with baby birds, developing a new educational program, introducing someone to an ambassador animal, or helping a student see a misunderstood species differently, Halle is helping extend CWR’s mission beyond the animals currently in our care.

Through education, she helps create the understanding and compassion that can prevent future animals from needing rescue in the first place.
