Our current laundry volume means truckloads of towels and linens make regular trips to the laundromat. We need commercial-grade washers and dryers to bring this essential operation back to CWR.

These large equipment purchases require a donor or co-purchasing partner willing to make the investment directly.

The Speed Queen SCT080 80-lb. capacity commercial washer & The Speed Queen ST120 120lb. capacity commercial dryer represents the type of commercial-grade equipment CWR needs to handle the rescue’s ongoing, high-volume laundry demands.

The commercial washer and dryer installation will require electrical, plumbing and concrete work, including securely hard-mounting the washer. 

CWR welcomes in-kind professional services whenever possible, but some work may need to be contracted. Sponsors can also help fund these installation costs. 

Professional Services Needed

  • Specialized Rigging and Delivery: Heavy equipment moving teams using pallet jacks or forklifts to safely transport, uncrate, and position industrial-weight machines. 

  • Structural and Concrete Services: Concrete contractors or specialized installers to verify that the reinforced concrete slab (typically 6+ inches thick) meets manufacturer specifications, drill anchor holes using heavy rotary/demolition hammers, set heavy-duty expansion or epoxy/resin anchor bolts, and pour non-shrinking machinery grout. 

  • Commercial Plumbing Services: Licensed plumbers to configure high-capacity hot and cold water supply lines, high-flow drain systems capable of handling rapid peak discharge rates (often 80+ gallons in under two minutes), and water hammer arresters.  

  • Commercial Electrical Services: Licensed electricians to evaluate and install high-amperage dedicated circuits, often requiring three-phase power and specialized electrical isolators depending on the machine’s heavy heating and motor loads.  

  • HVAC / Ventilation Services: Technicians to set up heavy-duty commercial exhaust ducting and high-capacity venting for industrial tumble dryers, ensuring proper BTU or electrical sizing. 

  • Turnkey Equipment Distributors / Calibration: Certified technicians provided by commercial laundry equipment suppliers to level the machines, torque anchor bolts to precise specifications, connect utility alignments, and run complete performance and safety tests.

1. Electrical Engineering & Commercial Electrician Services

The ST120 requires a dedicated, heavy-duty electrical setup to power its massive motor and reversing configurations. 

  • Dedicated Circuit & Disconnect Installation: A licensed commercial electrician must install a dedicated three-phase electrical line with a local fused disconnect switch located near the dryer. 

  • Panel Upgrades: Depending on your current facility infrastructure, you may need an electrical service upgrade or a new subpanel to accommodate the specific voltage, amperage, and phase requirements of the machine.  

2. Licensed Plumbing & Gas Fitting Services (For Gas-Heated Models) 

If you are installing the gas-heated version of the ST120, a certified gas fitter or commercial plumber is legally required to handle the fuel connection. 

  • Gas Line Service Extension: Installing high-capacity black iron piping scaled to deliver the correct BTU/hr load at the specified water column pressure. 

  • Regulators & Shut-off Valves: Fitting dedicated manual shut-off valves and gas pressure regulators to meet local safety codes. 

  • Leak & Pressure Testing: Performing mandatory safety pressure tests to confirm there are no leaks before the machine is fired up 

3. Commercial HVAC / Mechanical Ducting Services

Proper airflow and exhaust are arguably the most critical factors for an ST120. A commercial mechanical contractor must install the ventilation infrastructure.  

  • Exhaust Duct Construction: Installing heavy-gauge rigid metal ductwork (flexible plastic or light foil is strictly prohibited) sized precisely to the ST120’s output diameter. 

  • Make-Up Air Ventilation: Commercial dryers move an immense volume of air. HVAC technicians must cut and install adequate make-up air louvers/vents in the room to replace the exhausted air and prevent dangerous vacuum environments. 

  • Outside Hood Installation: Installing an exterior weather hood or damper that meets strict airflow clearance codes.  

4. Concrete & Structural Engineering Services 

The ST120 is exceptionally heavy and produces significant vibration during operation.  

  • Floor Verification & Cast-in-Place Concrete: A structural specialist or mason may need to verify that your floor meets the minimum thickness and structural load ratings. If the existing foundation is inadequate, they will need to pour a reinforced concrete pad.  

  • Anchor Bolt Installation: The dryer must be chemically or mechanically anchored securely to the concrete floor to prevent "walking" or excessive vibration transfer.  

5. Factory-Authorized Commercial Laundry Installers 

While tradesmen handle the rough-in utilities, a specialized commercial laundry distributor or factory-certified technician should handle the final staging and commissioning. 

  • Rigging and Placement: Utilizing heavy-duty appliance dollies, cranes, or forklifts to navigate the machine into place. 

  • Precision Leveling: Adjusting the heavy-duty leveling legs to ensure smooth drum rotation and avoid premature bearing wear. 

  • Control Programming & Commissioning: Programming the touchscreen or microprocessors, testing the reversing cylinder function, and verifying the proper fire suppression/safety limits are operational.
